Chiroubles, Beaujolais, France

Julien Chantreau

We love Beaujolais wine from Julien Chantreau – light, lively and absolutely irresistible. The grapes grow high in Beaujolais' coolest cru, giving the wine a fresh and elegant character. Here you get juicy Gamay with red berries, floral notes and a delicious stony touch. It's a wine with charm and energy that we just never get tired of.

Sustainability: Terra Vitis and
HVE certified

Vinification: Semi-Marceration Carbonic

Mark:

Chiroubles Javernand

Morgon Corcelette

Vinification

Semi Carbonic Maceration

Semi-macération carbonique is a hybrid vinification method where whole bunches are spontaneously fermented in a closed environment. The lower grapes are crushed under weight and start a classic alcoholic fermentation with natural yeast. The resulting CO₂ creates anaerobic conditions that initiate intracellular fermentation in the whole grapes at the top – that is, fermentation inside the berry, without contact with oxygen. The result is a wine with intense primary fruit, low extraction and minimal tannins. Classic aromas include cherry, violet, banana and red fruit. The technique is often used in Beaujolais, but is also gaining ground in natural wines and light red wines with a focus on freshness and drinkability.

The grape

Gamay

Julien and the rest of the winegrowers in Beaujolais make red wine from the Gamay grape. It is a very floral and fruity grape that produces incredibly lively, fruity and not least soft wines. There is plenty of flavor and intensity despite the light color they often have - make no mistake here. You will quickly catch cherries, raspberries and in some cases licorice in the wines from Julien.
