Domaine Verdant Chanson d'Eté Chardonnay 2020 – Oregon, USA

Chanson d'Été 2020 is a Chardonnay of character, finesse and poetic depth – made from the rare clone 548 from a single vineyard in Yamhill-Carlton. The wine undergoes a slow, cool fermentation with whole bunches to preserve the grape’s natural aroma and freshness. It is then aged for 15 months in French barriques, a large proportion of which are new – a precise barrel treatment that supports the wine’s structure without dominating its nuanced fruit.

In the glass, the wine opens with a seductive nose of toasted almonds, vanilla pods, nougat and beeswax, intertwined with ripe pear, juicy peach and dried apricot. The palate is silky and rounded, with discreet, chalky minerality and an acidity that is borne of ripeness rather than freshness. The finish is long, harmonious and slightly salty – a wine of both generosity and elegance.
