Domaine de Leyre-Loup Morgon Reserve 2015 – Beaujolais, France

Some wines demand your attention from the first sniff – and this 2015 Morgon Réserve is exactly that. Here you encounter one of Beaujolais' most serious sides, where ripe Gamay unfolds with depth, elegance and plenty of character.

The fruit is dark and round – cherries, ripe strawberries and dried flowers, finely balanced by notes of forest floor, spices and a touch of leather. The 2015 vintage was nothing short of excellent, and it is felt in every sip: there is structure, warmth and harmony here.

The wine has had time to develop, both in cask and bottle, and this gives it a soft, complex and almost Burgundian style, which makes it incredibly ready to drink now.

Carbonic maceration is a vinification method where whole grape clusters are placed in an oxygen-free tank filled with CO₂.
Fermentation starts intracellularly – that is, inside the grapes themselves – without crushing.
This process extracts color and aromas, but only a little tannin.
The result is fruity, soft and aromatic wines with low extraction and high drinkability.
